Work in the right order
- Open the email account linked to the game.
- Search the inbox for the game's sender domain and the original signup receipt.
- Use the game's own "forgot password" flow, not a link you found elsewhere.
- Only contact support when the email path is blocked.
Prove you own the inbox
If the mailbox itself is lost, recover that first. A private address with a reset flow and backup codes gives you two ways back in. A disposable address gives you none, which is the main reason not to use temp mail for game accounts.
What support will ask for
- The email address used at signup, or the account ID.
- A purchase receipt with the order number and date.
- Your last known password or a screenshot of the account page.
- Any linked platform (Steam, PSN, Xbox, Epic).
This is exactly why receipts matter. They live in your inbox, and a mail account with a searchable inbox and a filter for game stores is a recovery tool.
After you are back in
- Change the game password and the email password separately.
- Turn on two-factor on both, not just one.
- Set a recovery address and store the backup codes offline.
- Review signed-in devices and remove anything unfamiliar.
- Check the mailbox rules for a forwarding rule you did not create.
If you are setting this up now, start with a free @gamersmail.com address and finish the security checklist in Settings.
FAQ
The hacker changed my email. Now what?
Contact the game's support with proof of purchase. Recovery almost always starts with an invoice, not with the password.
Should I make a new account?
Only after support confirms the old one cannot be recovered. A new account loses purchases and progress.
How do I stop it happening again?
A unique password per account, two-factor on both the game and the email, and a recovery address you still control.
